Sts. Peter & Paul School has experienced great growth over the past 20 years, expanding from 134 students in 2003 to today’s enrollment of 180. This growth demonstrates our school’s continued success in guiding students to live like Christ as they fulfill their academic, personal and spiritual potential.
With this success comes great financial responsibility. Through the support of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and generous parishioners, our school is one of the last tithing-based schools in Indiana. This is a testament to Sts. Peter & Paul’s strong tradition of stewardship and dedication to school endeavors. Over the years, our commitment to excellence has helped establish our school as a leader in education. Now is the time to ensure this success continues for future generations.
The Indiana Choice Scholarship Program provides state funding to qualifying students that is used to offset tuition costs at participating schools. Sts. Peter & Paul School currently accepts Choice Scholarships for our non-parishioner, tuition-paying families who qualify based on eligibility criteria and household income. Introduced more than a decade ago, the Choice program has gradually expanded to allow more Indiana families the ability to direct tax dollars to their current non-public schools.
Recent changes in the Indiana Choice Scholarship program’s structure and eligibility guidelines present Sts. Peter & Paul Parish with financial opportunities that could have minimal impact on our school families. Legislation passed earlier this year significantly expanded the Choice Scholarship program to include most Indiana families. It is estimated that with these changes, roughly 97% of students will qualify for Choice. We recognize the potential benefits of the Choice Scholarship program and need to explore how it could impact our families, school and parish.
Today, we must examine how we can best support Sts. Peter & Paul School. It is of great importance that our parish remains financially stable and retains the ability to support the many resources required to provide a strong Catholic education. It is at this time that we share our intent to study the impact a tuition-based model could have on our parish, school, and families. Through the Choice Impact Study, we will examine what it means at Sts. Peter & Paul to implement tuition among all school families - both parishioners and non-parishioners.
No decisions have been made. We will take the next three months to study and weigh the benefits and risks of moving to a tuition-based structure for 2024-2025 school year. As we move through our Choice Impact Study, please pray for Sts. Peter & Paul, parish leaders and school families.
